Having a positive personal learning space is imperative to becoming a successful online user. Being self-motivated and keeping engaged result in having a positive online learning experience. Our motivation can either be intrinsic, intrinsic being personally meaningful and rewarding or extrinsic, which relies on external reinforcements as the motivating force (Pew, 2007). In an andragogical model there are steps to keep online students motivated with their learning. This is by letting learners know something is important to learn, showing learners how to direct themselves through information and relating the topic to the learner’s experiences (Pew, 2007). As online learning can be quite self-directed, it becomes vital to have self-efficacy, which is believing in our own capabilities to help us succeed (Cherry, K). Different experiences and feelings can hinder the way in which we think, however with a strong self-efficacy, we can guide ourselves through it. A strong personal learning space not only consists of motivation and self-efficacy, but also being able to question your learning. The taxonomy of reflection assists in questioning your past learning to benefit your future learning, this can be done from a teaching or learning perspective. By using this reflective method, it encourages individuals to move forward in their learning in a positive way. In my personal experience, I particularly use the analysing and creating stages as I ask myself if I see patterns in what I did and what I should do next.
